Notes

Attach notes to DNS records to document investigation findings, decisions, and context for your team.

Notes let you attach comments to DNS records to document findings, record decisions, and communicate context between team members. They provide a lightweight collaboration layer on top of your DNS inventory.

Where notes appear

Notes are always tied to a DNS record, but you can add them from multiple views:

  • Record detail — add a note directly on a record
  • Certificate view — add a note from a certificate (attached to the associated record)
  • Screenshot view — add a note from a screenshot (attached to the associated record)
  • Issue view — add a note on an issue for investigation context

Regardless of where a note is added, it remains accessible from the parent record.

Adding a note

  1. Navigate to a record, certificate, screenshot, or issue
  2. Open the Notes section
  3. Type your note (up to 2,000 characters)
  4. Click Add Note

Notes are attributed to the user who created them and timestamped automatically.

Deleting a note

Only the author of a note can delete it. Click the delete icon next to your note to remove it.

Notes in the Change Log

When a note is added to an issue, it appears as an Issue note added event in the Change Log. This provides an audit trail of investigation activity alongside other DNS changes.

Common uses

  • Investigation findings — document what you discovered when triaging a security issue
  • Decision records — explain why a record was kept or archived
  • Handoff context — leave notes for colleagues who will follow up
  • Remediation tracking — note what actions were taken and when
