HTTP 404 Not Found
The web endpoint returns a 404 Not Found error.
Severity: Warning
What does this mean?
When DNS Watchdog connected to the web endpoint associated with this DNS record, the server responded with HTTP status code 404 — "Not Found." This means the server is running and reachable, but there is no content at the requested URL.
Why this is a problem
A DNS record pointing to a 404 page suggests the resource it was created for no longer exists. This could mean a website was taken down, an application was moved, or the server was reconfigured. Stale DNS records pointing to empty endpoints are a sign of neglected infrastructure and can confuse users or automated systems that rely on the domain.
What you should do
- Check whether the web content was intentionally removed or moved
- If the resource has moved, update the DNS record to point to the new location
- If the resource is no longer needed, remove the DNS record
- If the 404 is unexpected, investigate the web server configuration
